How To Build Your Dream Home With HomLuv:

Recently, we went through the home buying process and it wasn’t quite the “House Hunters” experience I was hoping it would be. Nashville’s market is HOT and Trey and I are picky. That combo led to a full year of hunting.

We had specific things that we really wanted in our home. An all white kitchen, a large master suite and an in-law suite on the main floor with the boys’ rooms upstairs, a playroom, a movie room, a home office, etc. Finding these things in the style that we wanted was next to impossible. I thank my lucky stars everyday we were able to find our home, but it was like finding a needle in a haystack.

I recently discovered HomLuv and it can save you from some of these troubles and help you build your dream home!

How HomLuv Works:

* You pick a location. It is tailored to where you want to live. For us, we knew we wanted to be zoned for a specific school district. You could either niche down to a very small area, or choose a more broad location (i.e. Nashville) and let the home decide the location.

* It uses visual discovery! Hallelujah, some other visual people! They use actual images from builders. (Pinterest worthy by the way..) You can select by room. We were very particular about an all white kitchen, and a large master suite. You could specifically look for those things. You then “like” or “dislike” the different images.

* HomLuv tracks all of your “likes” and “dislikes”. It then formulates recommendations based on your style preferences, location, and budget. It pairs you with builders/homes that fit your needs.

For me, and I know so many others just getting started is the hardest part of the building process. HomeLuv takes that first step for you and makes it simple!

* HomLuv then becomes a tracking resource. You can reach out to builders directly from their site. You then have all communication from different builders in one location and can reference back easily.

It truly makes building your dream home a more streamlined and easier experience. If you’ve been thinking about a new home, this is such an awesome way to go!

Tank Dress | Slides

Ok ya’ll I have found the PERFECT everyday dress. It’s the softest material and so easy to throw on and go. I paired it with simple slide sandals (under $30 and come in several colors.) I wanted something I could chase babies in and be comfy in this hot weather. There is also a shorter version that’s less expensive as well. You can find that one HERE.

Back in my styling days I had go to items that I would suggest everyone have. Whenever you have those “I have absolutely nothing to wear” moments you can convert back to those few pieces and style them different ways.

You could also style this dress:

* With a bandana scarf and sneakers.
* Wedges and big statement earrings.
* Lace up sandals and a statement necklace.
* Tie up the bottom of the dress with a top knot hair style.

When it comes to a summer outfit I try to keep staple pieces in my closet and this is one of them. (As well as the slides.)

Here are some other under $100 summer outfit staples:

His & Hers- Date Night Fashion

His & Hers- Date Night Fashion

These days date nights are VERY few and far between. We don’t leave the babies very often. When we do, it is usually for work related events.

My mom was in town the other day and watched the kids so we could go on a little day date. It was one of the most fun days I’ve had in a long time, and the rest of the week we were just happier and ready to take on everything that came our way. It made me realize that taking time for one another is so important. It’s now a goal of mine to prioritize date nights!

Typical days at home with the boys are spent in pajamas. I do my best to upgrade to yoga pants at some point… On good days some distressed jeans and a band t-shirt. I rarely put on makeup during the week days unless I have an event, and my hair is often in a top knot. Trey never sees me dressed up. When we were first dating I was always dressed to the nines.

Every now and again it’s fun to get dolled up with some date night fashion and “date” each other again.

Since men’s fashion doesn’t change drastically from season to season, you can invest in quality pieces that can get a lot of wear. On our shopping venture we found SO many good deals at Nordstrom Rack. Several items we found at the rack were still full price at Nordatrom. The EXACT same items!

With men it doesn’t take a full suit to impress. A nice button down, fitted modern jeans and some suede shoes is all it takes.

I found these grey jeans that have a skinny fit without looking they are cutting off circulation… They are a great neutral color and look nicer than a blue denim color.

Rarely do I slip into a dress these days. A good dress can make you feel feminine and boost your confidence. I’ll invest in one from time to time that is flattering and wearable for all types of occasions.

The fit of a Veronica Beard dress is top notch. I caught this one on sale, and it’s becoming a closet staple piece. You know how you look in your closet on the day of an event and say “I have nothing to wear?” This is that kind of thing you can always throw on and have the fix for that. Pair it with flat sandals for day time or wedges for a more casual look.

I’m a sucker for a well made, designer heel. These M. Gemi suede heels are top notch quality, but at a lower price point than other Italian made quality shoes. They are comfortable, and made so well.

Rebel Rebel Tee | White High- Waist Jeans | Snakeskin Booties | Purse

First things first, this has been my go to uniform any time I have somewhere to go this spring and summer. Graphic and band tees with a pair of white jeans, and adding a pop with some snakeskin booties. Easy peasy.

These white high-rise jeans are awesome for pulling everything in and up if you know what I mean. This mama needs alllll of that help. They are also made of an eco-friendly modo blend that is made to never fade into a yellowish color. Crisp white forever!

Snakeskin is a neutral. You can truly wear these snakeskin booties all summer long. (Bonus…they are 25% off right now!)

Ok, now on to my favorite clothing item- graphic and band tees. Not too long ago I reached out on Instastory and asked what people would like me to create more content around. I got lots of great ideas, but of course I was drawn to the one that asked for a list of places to shop for these tees. So here goes!

Where To Shop For The Best Graphic And Band Tees

Brands I love- Chaser, Madeworn, Anine Bing, Daydreamer LA, Brunette the Label, The Laundry Room, Junk Food, Gucci, Mate The Label, Sub_Urban Riot, Kenzo, See by Chloe, The Great, Spiritual Gagster, Wildfox, Brandy Melville, Banner Day….

Where to find them….

Revolve– They carry so many great options. Chaser brand makes the SOFTEST tees. They have a website as well, but Revolve always has great stock in them. They also have Madeworn (awesomeeee band tees, Anine Bing, Junk Food, and Daydreamer.)

Free People– They offer some Daydreamer that is only sold through Free People and they are SO good. They also carry Banner Day (embroidered and really cool),

Nordstrom– They carry Brunette the label, Sub_Urban Riot (great price point!), Spiritual Gagster (all the positive vibes and sayings), as well as higher end pieces like Gucci.

Shopbop– They have such an amazing selection of The Great, Pam & Gela, always rotating Madeworn, Wildfox (another SUPER soft line), Anine Bing (a current favorite), etc.

Home Decor – Entryway with Hudson Valley Lighting

Home Decor – Entryway

home decor entryway

One of the first things you see in a home is the entryway, but so often it’s the last to get decorated. I wanted to make ours a little more special and put it high on the “to-do” list when we moved in.

I pinned this Hudson Valley Acrylic Chandelier on a “dream home” board awhile back, and I knew that the entryway of this home would be the perfect place for it. It replaced a iron pendant that was pretty vanilla, and I couldn’t be happier with the transformation! There are several different sizes, but this is the Travis pendant 20″ in the aged brass finish. You can find the exact one HERE.

When designing a space I start with a statement piece and let that inspire the rest of the room. I found a few other acrylic pieces that compliment the chandelier well. These floating acrylic wall frames line the walls, and blend in perfectly. They have brass knobs that give it that little something extra. This acrylic console table is in our living room as well. It’s not a very large space, so the acrylic blends without looking too bulky for the space. It allows me to have a home for a braided basket for storage and a spot for a tray or fresh florals to freshen the space.

Even though I kept to my typical neutral theme, I like to add different textures and prints. An easy way to add that is with rugs. I loved this vintage turkish rug that covers a lot of space and wanted an additional faux cowhide to cover more of the dark hardwood as well.

I wanted an inviting and comfy chair in the little corner, and found this grey accent chair. The shape is interesting, and slightly modern. The bottom has nailheads and a rustic looking wood. The perfect juxtaposition. A big cozy blanket makes anything feel more “homey.” This one is by Little Giraffe. It’s a splurge, but SO comfy. Some items are worth splurging and you can balance it out with inexpensive pieces that can be traded in and out. This marble top nesting table came in a set of two on Amazon for under $50.

I’d still love to add a picture light above each of the acrylic frames in a brass color to really make it pop. These aren’t cheap so it’d be an investment, but I think it could really make a statement! What do ya’ll think? Should I pull the trigger?

Happy Mother’s Day to ALL the “Mamas” of the world out there! For the mom still hoping, the mom that adopted, the mom that pricked herself with countless needles and endured IVF. The ones who saw the heartbeat and the ones who lost the heartbeat. The aunties, the grandmas, the step moms who stepped on in and up. Whatever describes you… Happy Mother’s Day to YOU.

The sweetest sound I’ve ever heard is the first time each of my boys babbled out, “mama.” My heart just about exploded. It’s the most honorable title I’ve ever held, the hardest job I’ve ever had, and the deepest love I’ve ever felt.

The day G came into the world and I got to join the precious “mama” club was the greatest day of my life. So much advice was thrown my way. How to swaddle/not to swaddle, to breastfeed/not to breastfeed, how tired I’d be, how to get my baby to sleep through the night. Blah, blah, blah. Now I’m happy to listen to advice from any other club member, because I know the kind of work that goes into learning these secrets. However, what I didn’t hear much of was the immense and absolutely insane love that you INSTANTLY feel for your child. Un-describable, unmatched, unconditional, pure LOVE.

So on this Mother’s Day I’m choosing to not focus on the sleepless nights, thousands of diapers, and the emotional distress that motherhood brings along. Instead I’m focusing on what being “mama” means to me. LOVE.

I’m just going to bask in all the love and focus on gratitude. Gratitude that I GET to live this life. That these precious angel babies call me “mama.” That they crawl to me when they are hurt. They yell for me when they have a success. For this incredible precious time in life I’m the one they need for everything and love the most.

Mother’s Day has quickly become my favorite holiday. Celebrating my favorite and most special role in life. How amazing!

So today, give yourself some grace and sing some praises to any fellow mamas out there. No matter what path they are walking!

(P.S. I’ve partnered with some mama friends of mine to do a pretty amazing giveaway to pamper all the mamas out there. You can check that out HERE. )

travel guide to gatlinburg

Thank you Visit Gatlinburg for sponsoring this post. The mountains are calling! Plan your own Gatlinburg adventure today.

My girlfriend Chelsea and I have been talking about getting away for a day trip to Gatlinburg for awhile now, and we were finally able to make it happen! Gatlinburg is a quant, scenic, mountain town with activities for families or fun girls’ trips. 😉

Every now and again you just want to car karaoke and take a little road trip. Gatlinburg is right at a 3 hour drive from Nashville, so it was super easy for us to pack up and go in the morning, explore the city, eat, shop and enjoy ourselves before hitting the road back to Nashville.

When we first got there we grabbed a bite to eat at Loco Burro. We grabbed some tableside guacamole and margaritas on the upstairs, outdoor patio and looked out over the Parkway.

I was the MOST excited to visit Anakeesta Adventure Park. You ride the Chondola up the mountain and take in the scenic views up to the attraction. There were zip lines, some shops, food, and an adorable ice cream shop. Chels and I were excited to do the tree canopy walk. It felt like a magic treehouse. There are 16 bridges that connect and you are 40 to 60 feet above the ground. It brought us back to childhood, and it was such a great view of the Smokies.

After you are done you can grab an ice cream cone and there are rocking chairs overlooking the side of the mountain or rocking chairs surrounding a fire pit as well. It’s just a slower pace of life up there to relax and take in the scenic views.

Once we rode the Chondola back to the bottom of the mountain we just wanted to just stroll around the shops and check them all out. Our favorite was Savannah Bee Company. We did a honey tasting and even tried a honey wine. SO good. Fun fact.. the different honey types were not flavored, but made from the honey only going to that type of flower. This blew my mind! HA!

Chelsea’s family grew up going to Gatlinburg so she wanted to stop by Fannie Farkle’s to play some games and grab a bit of cheat day fair food!

I really wanted to dip my feet in a stream and hike around the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to breathe in that mountain air, and relax. You can also go up in the Gatlinburg Space Needle to check out the awesome mountain views.

Gatlinburg is full of wineries and breweries as well. We wanted to try out some moonshine, and did a quick stop at Ole Smoky Moonshine.

A day trip to Gatlinburg is what my soul needed. It was so fun for me to get away and be carefree for a day – to just breathe in the mountain air, spend some QT with a girlfriend, shop, eat good food, and take in the beautiful scenery. If you are looking for a quick getaway, I highly recommend it!

I wanted to keep this space light and bright, but bring in a lot of different textures and mix matched prints to keep it interesting.

One of the best part of working with a monochromatic palette is that any print or texture can be brought it and play well together.

Once you’ve decided on a color scheme you can pick a statement item or two and build around that. I had these striped chairs in the office prior to this, and decided I wanted to move them to living room. They are a bold statement piece so I started building from there.

If you have kids I HIGHLY recommend replacing a typical coffee table with a round ottoman . It’s easy for the babes to pull themselves up without hitting their head or gauging an eye out on a sharp corner. (These are my concerns when decorating these days…)

When designing this neutral living room I always knew I wanted a big light colored jute rug to cover and protect the dark wood floors. It’s more of a heavy duty material than a typical rug. I layered that with this monochromatic print rug. (This is also something that I could switch out to change up the look.)

I get asked about these couches a lot. They are from Restoration Hardware in the luxe depth. (Size of a twin size bed deep, for reference.) This is the belgian linen in the color “sand.” I like to mix some higher end pieces like the couches, with easy to change out affordable pieces. (Like throw blankets and pillows.)

Baskets are so important for us because they can hold toys, blankets, pillows, etc and hide the “crazy” when company comes over. I found this large braided basket at Target and LOVE it. It’s $35 and looks identical to the pottery barn option that’s 4x that price. It’s very sturdy and can hold a good amount of items. (By “items” I really mean toys that I cover up with some throw pillows and blankets…)

Acrylic furnishings are trending right now, and I wanted to “glam” up the more boho space with a few. This acrylic tray is such a versatile piece that I have several of them all throughout our home. You can throw some florals or candles on one to freshen up a space easily.

I also found this acrylic console that blends in perfectly with the space. I topped it with a marble tray (another home decor must have at $25) and some florals, candles, and this wood bead garland. (Side note, this roses candle is the best smelling candle I’ve ever had.)

Making our house feel like a home and putting our own spin on the decor has been so much fun! Can’t wait to show you the entryway I’m working on next.

Organizing Your Home With California Closets

Thank you California Closets for sponsoring this post.

One of the things I promised myself when we moved into our new home was that I would keep it organized and make the most of each space.

Naturally, I am not the most organized person. I’ve learned to reach out for help in this area and depend on the experts.

I took a visit to the California Closets in Cool Springs and sat down with designer, Kylie to discuss how they could help in this venture.

As a blogger and fashion lover, I have a LOT of clothes, shoes, purses, etc. In our new home I do have a big space, but it isn’t utilized in a way that makes sense. Kylie explained how they will come into your home, take inventory of what you have, and do precise measurements to design a custom set up that utilizes the space in the best possible way.

They can do this for a pantry, closet, laundry room, garage, or whatever other spot in your home needs organizational improvement.

They work with your budget and specific needs. Then (this was such a cool part) they do a 3D rendering of the space so you can visualize how it will look at completion.

One of the biggest takeaways from our meeting was her explaining Marie Kondo’s KonMari method. This method is a new approach to decluttering your home based on Japanese values that teach you to surround yourself with things that spark joy and let go of the rest. Ya’ll know I’m all about positive thinking, so the importance on being mindful, introspective, and optimistic with her approach really hit home to me.

This blends perfectly California Closets methods because if you only have the things that you love, then of course you would want to display those items. Everything has a home and can be seen, but also easily utilized. I instantly went home and incorporated her folding technique into my drawers!

You can view more on this method HERE:

Excited to kickstart my closet customization with some of the awesome ideas Kylie had. Our ceilings are very high, and currently only half of the wall is being utilized. She talked about adding display shelving for my handbags in the current wasted space. (I LOVED this idea.) There were also so many small things that I never would have thought of. For example, they can include an ironing board that can be tucked away, a steaming/display rod, laundry hampers, drawers for laundry, etc. So many things that can make everyday living easier and more functional.

I’m also ready to tackle my laundry room and make that space more functional with their help as well!

I learned so much and had a lot of fun sitting down for a consultation at the California Closets showroom.

I encourage ya’ll to make an appointment to see how they could help you in your home!(There are showrooms all throughout the US.) You can also read a little bit more about what to expect from an appointment HERE. An organized home truly does make for a more peaceful and productive life!

second birthday party

We had the BEST week celebrating Georgie’s second birthday. Cake for breakfast, guacamole for lunch, golf cart rides, and train table playin’. All of his favorite things wrapped up into giggle filled days was pretty special!

G has an infatuation with puppies so it was an easy pick for a puppy themed birthday.

Last year, I rented out a place and we transported all the decor. It was kind of a pain, so I knew I wanted a party at home this year.

I have a couple of go to secrets that make every party next level.

1.) A cake from Copper and Whisk. Lizzie is just the sweetest and her cakes taste better than anything I’ve ever tried. NO exaggeration. George had some leftover from Mallory’s baby shower and asked for it for days. The salted caramel is incredible. One of our guests told us he felt like he has been missing out for years, because he had no clue cake could taste that good.

She took inspiration from the invites to tie everything together.

2.) Calligraphy from Sincerly Hope Designs. She takes any party to the next level. I purchased these cheap clear acrylic display holders from Amazon and she added the calligraphy (sticking with the theme, of course!)

We did “bone appetit” near the food and “puppy treats” next to the cake. She also did one to coordinate with the party favors that read, “Puppy Adoption Center.”

I told her I wanted a neutral (shocker, I know) puppy theme and she took it and ran with it for the adorable invites.

The icing on the cake of any party is one of her banners. It makes the biggest statement!

3.) Balloons! Every kid party should have balloons! This installation was done by Vroom Vroom Balloon in Nashville. You could totally purchase balloons and do your own DIY version as well.

4.) Plenty of food! We had Martin’s barbeque cater it so I didn’t have to worry about cooking. I always have plenty of food and if there is extra send guests home with some leftovers. (They always appreciate the gesture!)

5.) Have activities for kids. G has lots of outdoor toys (slide, bounce house, tents) so I made sure it was all up and added a “Dog Park” banner. (Putting touches to the theme anywhere you can is always great!)

6.) Have a fun and unique party favor. We set up an adoption station where the kids could take a stuffed puppy with an adoption certificate for their name and a little keepsake box.

7.) S’mores! It’s always fun for adults and kids. If the weather permits it’s great to be outside anyway. (This one was Trey’s idea and was a hit!)

G had so much fun at his puppy themed party and we loved celebrating him. So thankful to our friends and family that showed him so much love on his special day.
